About Us

Family Owned and Operated Business

Alleydesigns is a family owned and operated business, based in Currumbin on the lower end of the Gold Coast. Initially, we started this business from our house in Currumbin Waters, where we converted one of lounge rooms into board room storing 50 boards. Having a young family with two boys under three years of age, this allowed us to juggle family life with a start-up business. As time passed, we paddled more, and our range of boards and paddles grew, 40 boards on display in our lounge room, sunroom converted into racks for board storage, a 20ft container in the side yard and multiple storage sheds – we had outgrown the family house. Wanting to stay local, we found a new warehouse that can accommodate our unique business at 1/48 Currumbin Creek Rd, Currumbin Waters QLD 4223.

We started this business because we love paddling and we also wanted to enrich peoples lives. From our own experience, there are physical and mental benefits from paddling a stand-up board. The physical benefits are quite obvious and will help strengthen muscles and potentially avoid surgery from certain conditions, but the mental health benefits are often understated. Working in the corporate world, raising a young family, marriage and renovating a house all brings stress and pressure. Exercising on the water was one of the best ways to look after my own mental health. No distractions (TV, mobile phone, radio, computer, etc) allowing the time to process all thoughts and clear mind. After paddling for an hour, I would step off the board a new man with a clear head, be a better father, be a better husband and continue to be energised and successful in the corporate world.

So starting our own business alleydesigns – we appreciated that life is expensive and people have different needs. With this in mind, we have created a range of our own paddle boards that are great shapes, sweet designs, light, strong and provide our customers with great value and very competitive pricing – no gouging!

Our SUP shapes have been developed through our own paddling experience in all conditions, be it surfing the alley, paddling my usual 10kms in Currumbin creek before work, 20km ocean paddle to Snapper Rocks and back, overhead barrels at Angourie, competing in the Hawksbury Classic (100kms at night), a slow rolling wave at Watagoes with my son on the board and not to forget the family paddling adventure.

This experience provides us with the knowledge to get our customers on the right board the first time, which can be lacking in the broader market.

We (Katrina and Andrew) would love to hear from you – check us out on Facebook, give us a call or send us an email. We built this business to get people out on paddle boards.
